Tourists, art-lovers, shoppers and London business folk regularly flock to Mayfair. The Science Museum in Kensington is a amazing place to visit and you could explore it for hours. It showcases ‘astonishing science’ and has galleries and interactive displays that cover areas such as art, energy, environment, medicine and biology, space and transport. Entry is free.
Handel House Museum is a beautifully restored Georgian house, where the composer Handel lived from 1723 until his death in 1759. It gives a great insight into his life, 18th century culture and music. Baroque concerts are held at the house on Thursdays throughout the year.
The Royal Academy holds numerous exhibitions throughout the year, as well as a varied programme of talks and tours. Its annual Summer Exhibition (which has been held every year since 1769) attracts around 10,000 works of art and finances the training of young artists in the Academy schools.
Just a few minutes’ walk from Browns in Mayfair is the world famous London Palladium. Built in 1910, it’s been used as a circus, an ice rink and a cinema – but now it stages big productions of musicals and classic favourites.
