The Florence Nightingale Museum gives a fascinating insight into the life and work of Ms Nightingale, who led the nurses caring for soldiers during the Crimean War and became known as the ‘Lady with the Lamp’. She was also a visionary health reformer and a brilliant campaigner.
There are also the brilliant Churchill War Rooms on King Charles Street, the War Cabinet Room where Churchill and his ministers and military command met during the war. It’s literally a bunker, an underground maze – and an amazing piece of living history.
Book a performance at the Theatre Royal Haymarket and enjoy an exciting and memorable evening. Some of the most successful shows in the West End have been produced here, including Waiting for Godot and Flare Path. The Victoria Palace Theatre and the beautiful art deco building that houses the Apollo Theatre are also within easy reach.
Westminster Abbey welcomes over a million visitors a year – and the 700 year old building is a wonderful place to see. The Abbey Museum is housed in the vaulted undercroft beneath the former monks’ dormitory, one of the oldest parts of the building.
