About Newcastle

Newcastle is a sophisticated, cosmopolitan city with more than its fair share of events, attractions, galleries and museums. Its industrial heritage is vitally important; it’s one of the world’s largest ship-building and ship-repairing centres.

Just yards from Browns in Newcastle, the Theatre Royal has an excellent programme of musicals, comedy, award winning ballet and dance, and stages possibly the best pantos in the country!

Collections at the Great North Museum include natural sciences, geology and archaeology that serve to show the wonder of the animal and plant kingdoms.

The BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art provides a dynamic programme of exhibitions and activities. The building itself is an industrial landmark, sitting on the south bank of the River Tyne in Gateshead.

Also in Gateshead, the Sage music venue has two main stages plus a 26 room education centre; you’ll be able to enjoy world music, jazz, country, folk and the wonderful Northern Sinfonia, the Sage’s own classical orchestra.

Newcastle is also home to Europe’s largest shopping and leisure centre – the Intu Metrocentre – with around 330 shops, the only IMAX cinema in the North East and Namco Funscape which has bowling, dodgems and soft play areas.

For quirkier shopping, you could head to High Bridge and browse the independent clothes and music shops or the treasure trove of vintage wear, Attica.

However you choose to spend your time here in Newcastle, top it off with a visit to Browns – whether you fancy cocktails before dancing, or dinner after a show.
