Milton Keynes is renowned for its shopping – with malls like The Centre:MK and Midsummer Place, The Hub and The Kingston Centre, not to mention the many farmer’s markets, superstores and traditional boutique shops, it really does have a lot to offer.
But Milton Keynes also has some fantastic parks, lakes, wooded areas and open spaces – in fact, 20% of the city is green, meaning it really is a ‘city in the country’.
You could follow the Art Trail in the beautiful Campbell Park and discover some amazing sculptures and water features - or head for Willen Lake and try cable-tow water-skiing. The Grand Union Canal runs through the heart of the city, so you could take a peaceful walk along the towpath.
Although it’s a relatively new city, Milton Keynes has a vibrant and diverse culture with art, sculpture, theatres and museums galore. Bletchley Park takes a fascinating look at secret British code-breaking activities during World War II – the museum features Enigma machines and a variety of activities and exhibitions, from wartime toys to working computers.
The Milton Keynes City Orchestra gave its first performance in 1975, and has built an impressive reputation. You could enjoy concerts at Woburn Church and the Campus Theatres.
The Stables is a 398 seat auditorium that presents over 200 concerts each year – it’s a favourite for rock, pop, jazz and classical musicians. And, of course there’s the National Bowl, a major entertainment venue that plays host to some of the biggest names in the world.
