About Windsor

The most famous thing about Windsor just has to be the Castle, the largest inhabited castle in the world and the oldest in continuous occupation. It covers more than 12 acres and Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House is a joy to visit – it has working lifts, running water and electricity (all on a scale of 1:12) and took 1,500 craftsmen three years to complete.

To see Windsor at its finest, take a carriage ride through Windsor Great Park. Or you can get a great view of the Castle from the banks of the River Thames. Motor boats and rowing boats are available for hire if you fancy taking to the water.

A few minutes away, you can cross the bridge on foot, and take a stroll down Eton High Street, tour round Eton College and visit the Chapel.

The Theatre Royal in Thames Street has many big name productions and hosts traditional pantos every year. Windsor Arts Centre shows a mixed programme of films, exhibitions, musical events and comedy acts.

Legoland, just south of Windsor and open from March to October each year, is a huge tourist attraction – it has a fantastic shop where you can buy all kinds of LEGO® sets, LEGO watches and souvenirs, plus there are dozens of thrilling rides like the Pirates Landing and the Land of the Vikings.

Windsor town centre, with buildings like the Parish Church and the Guildhall, has an excellent choice of shops catering for all tastes - and is a great place to visit.
