The city is known as ‘Jane Austen’s Bath’. Two of her six published novels, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion were set in Bath and she lived here from 1801 to 1806.
Bath holds a Jane Austen Festival every year - with a programme of concerts, dancing and fashion shows - to celebrate her life and work.
The city still boasts stunning Georgian architecture and iconic attractions, such as the Roman Baths. The magnificent temple and bathing complex attracts visitors from all over the world and if you do decide to ‘take the waters’, Thermae Bath Spa is the only place in the UK where you can bathe in natural thermal springs.
If you want to find out some little known and fascinating facts about Bath, take one of the Secret City Tours that run regularly throughout the week. The guides employed were once homeless on the city’s streets – and all the profits go towards supporting homeless initiatives in Bath.
